The moment Atlantis touched down the runway and stopped its engine, the Space Shuttle program also comes to an end. For three decades, the Shuttles, the first of its kind to be deployed in service, made the United State the leader in manned space flights. But along with the decommissioning of the 3 shuttles from the original 5, is also the lost of thousands of jobs. Because the program is no more, NASA will be scraping off more than 3,000 jobs related to the program. Only about 1,000 of them will remain to oversee the transfer of the 3 shuttles to the museum where they will be displayed for the people to admire and remember. After the transfer, they too will be remove removed from their jobs, with no clear plan what to do with their lost careers. An option would be to work for the private companies which will take over the job of sending supplies to the International Space Station sometime next year. Another is to find available labor in the promising commercial space flights where tourists will be taken up for a near-orbit flight experience. But for now, all these people can do is wave goodbye to the shuttle program as well as to their jobs which gave them milk and honey for the last 30 years. You can talk about...
